The Impossible (Spanish: Lo Imposible) is a 2012 English-language Spanish drama film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona from a screenplay written by Sergio G. Sánchez, starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. It tells the true story of a Spanish (though portrayed as British) family's experience of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
The film received massive praise on it’s debut at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, directed mostly toward McGregor, Watts and Tom Holland’s performances, as well as director Bayona and writer Gutierrez Sanchez for their work. Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts are obviously the big pull for the audiences and both look to be back to their best in this feature after a few years out of the limelight.
Plot: The film tells the true story of a Spanish couple, played by Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, and their three children. It starts as the family begins their Christmas vacation in Thailand, with the intention of spending a few days at a tropical paradise resort. However, their idyllic vacation is interrupted on the morning of December 26, 2004, when a devastating tsunami interrupts their relaxation and destroys the coastal zone, separating the family and triggering a frantic search.
The Impossible is predicted to be one of the biggest films of the year and it is also expected to be nominated at the Oscars!
PVR Pictures will be releasing The Impossible in India.
