The Chandigarh administration is working on developing Mani Majra, the suburban locality in the city which was the site for shooting the Academy Award winning Zero Dark Thirty, into a tourist destination. Mani Majra was portrayed as Abbottabad, in Pakistan. Zero Dark Thirty, a narrative about the decade-long hunt for Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden won five Oscar nominations.

The Ministry of Tourism has also taken up the development of Mani Majra. Till last year Mani Majra, a small town in Chandigarh, was known mainly for being a prosperous suburb. But after the release of Zero Dark Thirty, it has acquired the potential to attract foreign tourists who are keen to see where the film was shot.

The Incredible India website not only has an embedded YouTube video that shows the majestic medieval Mani Majra Fort, but it also shows glimpses of the town and shows the exact locations where the film was shot. Earlier, a similar campaign was launched by the tourism department to promote tourism in parts of Munnar in Kerala where Life of Pi had been filmed.
